Introduction |
 |
|
Chongqing Technology and Business University (CTBU) is situated in Chongqing city – known as the ‘gateway to the west’. CTBU has benefited from the rapidly growing economy of Chongqing, and in recent years has become one of the leading universities in this region. It has about 21,000 full-time students. Comprised of 21 schools, CTBU offers a wide range of undergraduate and graduate programs and boasts strong faculties in economics, management, arts, natural sciences and social sciences.
CTBU covers an area of about 330 acres with a floor space of more than 800,000 square meters. The main campus, nestled at the foot of Nanshan Mountain and near the Yangtze River, lies only 7 kilometers from the central shopping and entertainment area of Chongqing. A beautifully landscaped environment—with many trees and gardens, and mountain hiking on the high side of campus—along with the attractive architecture of buildings make the campus a popular attraction for local people and tourists alike. An excellent bus network and light-rail system connects CTBU to the city centre and the surrounding suburbs. It takes just 30 minutes to drive to Chongqing International Airport.
As a university which attaches great importance to international cooperation and exchange, CTBU has established cooperative relationships with over 35 universities and organizations in more than 10 countries and regions, including the U.S.A., U.K., France, the Netherlands, Canada, Australia, Russia, South Korea, Japan, South-eastern Asia and Hong Kong. This international interaction has proven beneficial to all concerned. In addition, CTBU has two major educational joint-ventures with France and the Netherlands, both of which have the approval of the State Education Commission. Thanks to such international cooperation, CTBU employs the second largest number of foreign teachers among the universities and institutions in Chongqing.
CTBU has been enrolling international students since 2005, and currently has students from the U.S.A, U.K., France, Australia, Korea and Thailand. The university offers a wide variety of programs: for example, ‘Experiencing Chongqing Through CTBU’, which enables students to study Chinese, to become familiar with Chongqing and to experience the local culture; ‘Chinese Language and Culture’, which provides a systematic study of Chinese Language; and the degree programs offer a wide choice of majors. As for the teaching resources, CTBU is proud to have strong faculties of Chinese language and other majors. Top international students also have the opportunity to obtain a CTBU Scholarship, or the coveted ‘Chongqing Mayor’s Scholarship’.
The well-equipped and spacious international students’ apartments are conveniently located on campus, nearby the gymnasium, swimming pool and sports ground. In addition to study, there are many colorful extracurricular activities to be shared with Chinese students — a basketball match, a martial arts competition, a hot pot party, an English/Chinese corner, a street dance show, lessons on making dumplings, or appreciating the magic of ‘Face Changing’ performances in Sichuan Opera. Chongqing enjoys a comparatively cheap cost of living. The hospitable people, delicious food, affordable living, and unique local culture are all great attractions to the international students.
