Sichuan Agricultural University, one of the 100 universities selected by the Chinese government to receive special funding under the “211 Project”, has a predominance of bio-technology and agricultural sciences, and covering fields such as physical science, engineering, economics, management，veterinary medicine, liberal arts, pedagogy and law. Its former body was Sichuan Tong Sheng Agricultural School established in 1906, subordinated to National Sichuan University in 1935. It was moved to Yaan city from Chengdu and Sichuan Agricultural College was founded here independently in 1956, renamed as Sichuan Agricultural University in 1985.

The university has a complete educational system involving postgraduate education, common higher education, advanced vocational technology education, adult education, modern distance education and international cooperative education. It governs 17 colleges, 5 research institutes and several research centers. The university possesses 4 national key disciplines, 14 ministerial and provincial key disciplines, 14 ministerial and provincial key laboratories，2 engineering centers of the State Educational Department, 2 Changjiang Scholar Invention Group of the State Education Ministry. 3 post-doctoral programs of first level disciplinary, 32 disciplines with the power to award doctoral degrees, 73 specialized disciplines for masters and 66 for undergraduates. The number of enrolled full-time students at campus now is around 30,000. And there are 1,500 members of teachers and researchers, of which 550 are high professional title staff, 2 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, 5 national outstanding senior experts, 1 lecturing professor of Changjiang Scholar of the State Education Ministry, 7 middle-aged and young experts awarded for their outstanding contribution to the country, 6 1st-level and 2nd level academic candidates of the state “Hundred-Thousand-Ten Thousand Personnel Project”(Bai Qian Wan Talented Staff Project), 5 members of the Jury of the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council and the Educational Instruction Committee of the Professional Degrees Committee of the State Council, 1 renowned teacher at state level, 4 renowned teacher at provincial level, 50 provincial academic and technical supervisors, 26 excellent provincial experts awarded for their outstanding contribution, and 112 specialists enjoying the Special Government Allowance from the State Council. The university, one of the first 200 universities in China entitled to receive overseas students, is active in international academic exchanges with more than 30 universities and research institutes from the United States, Canada, Germany, Holland, Russia, Thailand and Japan, etc. It covers an area of over 4,500 mu (300 ha.) and the university library owns a collection over 2,000,000 volumes.

Since the reform and opening to the outside world, over 100,000 students have been educated here and a great number of advanced-level scientific achievements has been attained. Till now 52 above provincial-level teaching achievement prizes have been attained, among which 3 items are the first class state higher education prizes, 7 the second-class state higher education prizes and 14 the first-class provincial higher education prizes. 4 doctoral theses entered the circle of the national excellent doctoral papers. And the university has won over 400 scientific and technological prizes at state-level or at province-and –ministerial-level. 2 items winning the First Class National Invention Prize, 1 item the Second Class National Scientific Invention prize, 1 item the Second Class National Science Prize, 9 items the second grade prizes of the National Scientific Advancement Award, 3 items the Special Grade Award of Sichuan Scientific Advancement. About 70% of the awarded scientific results have found wide application in society and converted into production with a social and economic benefit of over 60 billion Yuan (RMB).

The university was granted the title of state advanced unit for its teaching management, postgraduate education, scientific research, foreign affairs, student employment, student social practice and PE in recent years by the State Educational Ministry. In April 1991 and May 2002 the former general secretary of the CPC Jiang Zemin inspected the university, affirming the resulting achievements and placing great hope in its future. Chinese premier Wen Jiabao appraised the university’s work twice: ‘The Spirit of Sichuan Agricultural University should be summarized, publicized and developed.’ ‘Sichuan Agricultural University has done a good work. International Students Admission Information

I. An Overview

Sichuan Agricultural University (SAU) is an educational institution of higher learning with a long history (founded in 1906). It has been selected by the Chinese government as one of the top universities in the country to receive special funding under the “National Project 211” program. Beautified by green mountains and blue rivers, SAU is situated in the well known city of Ya’an，the hometown of Giant Panda and the cradle of Tea Culture of the world, the same as top ten China glamour city and Chinese excellent tourist city. Connected by express highway, Ya’an is 148 km away from Chengdu(about 80 minutes’ drive), the capital city of Sichuan province, and 130 km away from the Shuangliu international airport. The main objective of the university is to train agriculturalists at different level. At present, SAU has got 14 colleges, one graduate college, 5 research institutes, 2 state key disciplines, 64 specialties at the undergraduate level, 64 specialties at the master’s level and 29 at the doctorate level. The university is accredited to grant Bachelor’s, Master’s and doctorate degrees. The present total enrollment stands at around 21,000.

Applicants who would like to study at SAU are supposed to supply materials as follows:

(4) One copy of Certificate of Chinese Proficiency Test (HSK). A primary stage C grade qualification of the HSK is necessary.

IV. Tuition and Living Fee (RMB Yuan)

(1) Registration fee: 400 Yuan per person.

(3)  Standard room for foreign student: 40 Yuan per day for short term students staying less than 2 months, and 30 Yuan per day for student staying more than 2 month (excluding fee of power and water), with the equipment of phone, TV, air conditioner, bath room, internet service for personal use.
We also offer the postgraduate student’s dormitory with TV, balcony, sofa, 25 meter square public room to foreign students. Single room costs 30 Yuan per day, and double room 20 Yuan for two person per day, and 4,000 Yuan per year for long term students.
(4)  Food expenses: Students can go to any of the various dining halls on the campus. Usually food costs 300-500 Yuan per person per month.
(5)  The self-paid students have to pay their own medical care, travel expenses and textbooks.

2. For degree and long term study students, please send back the filled out Application Form, and the notarized education diplomas and school reports, along with the Physical Examination Form endorsed by a public hospital. To those who qualify after examination, a letter of Enrollment Notice and JW202 Form issued by the Chinese Ministry of Education will be granted, with which a visa (“F”for less than 180-day studying and“X”for more than 180-day studying) can be obtained from a Chinese Embassy or Consulate.

3. Those holding the Enrollment Notice and JW202 form are expected to register within the notified dates. Those who fail to register within 15 days after the deadline without necessary procedures for postponement permission will be denied admission.

4. Beginning Date of Studying: September 1st of each year is the beginning date for degree students. Flexible times for other students. Please inform us your time of arrival of Chengdu in advance and we will be there ready for help.
